Andy Cooney concert a big hit in DuBois!

November 28, 2012 was a night to remember for The DuBois Area Concert Association.  That's when they presented "Andy Cooney and His Classic Irish Christmas Show"  It was a full house of thrilled patrons who spent a large portion of the evening on their feet in full applause.  Andy Cooney, one of the greatest singing sensations on the stage today, has been dubbed by The New York Times as Irish America's Favorite Son. He tours the world with the famous group, The New York Tenors as well as his own shows, and appears on PBS. His outstanding voice, dynamic stage presence, and humor made this a night that those in attendance will long treasure.
To the audience's delight, The Darrah Carr Dancers performed a contemporary modern dance during the shows opening, then again during the show.  They received a very enthusiastic response when performing the Traditional Irish Step Dance.
Andy introduced his long time friend Deirdre Reilly, who became an outstanding highlight of the show. Deirdre is a skilled songwriter/vocalist who has recorded two Irish albums, and four Country albums.  Born of Irish parents from Cork and Mayo, she grew up listening to  Irish favorites and American Country music.  As a teenager she was invited to Nashville to perform at Opryland Show Park.  She went on to perform with legendary Chet Atkins, and other country greats. The audience kept Deirdre on the stage as she wowed with a wide array of good ole country favorites as well as some originals.  Veteran Nashville fiddler, Vic Gagnin's solos coupled with her great presentation brought the house to it's feet several times.
An exceptional group of musicians, under the direction of Brian Moran one of New York City's finest musicians provided the highest quality of accompaniment throughout the show.  Brian, Bugsy, as he is known in the profession, directed, played keyboard, sang solo, as well as harmony parts with the group and Andy,  was joined by Vic Gagnin on guitar and fiddle, Matt Fisher on flute, tenor sax, and whistles, and an extraordinary percussionist Jimmy Kelly.  Each member of the group performed on several instruments, and joined in on vocals, helping to make this one of DuBois Concert Association's first class offerings.
